Pyle, Howard. King Stork. Illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. Boston, Little, Brown [1973] 0316724408

Though the man is nameless, a "jack" tale where a man assists a stranger and is rewarded. The tale is raw with old world wisdom of such things as beating the evil out of a woman. The artwork is amazing and stands the test of time well. However, the scanty togs, severed heads, and (look carefully at the table) carnal act illustrated make this story suitable for older readers.
