The Atlas of the Walking Dead : An Official Primer by Roman

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my sad duty to inform you that, despite the best efforts of the world's governments, plagues of monsters threaten not only our position as the dominant species, but our very existence.

Thus, it is the moral and ethical duty of every right-thinking citizen, young or old, to learn as much as they can about the fiends that menace our fair cities, and counteract their nefarious plots.

To this end, I present the following works as tools of education and edification against the coming darkness. Do not be fooled by the thin veneer of fiction overlaying the necessary facts.

Thus, without further ado, I present a brief selection of works vital to any monster slayer's efforts.

Good Hunting.

Dracula by Bram Stoker, Penguin, 2003 (reissue)

The classic vampire tale, wherein a lawyer travels to Transylvania to confer with a client possessed of interesting feeding habits.

Fray by Joss Whedon, et al. Dark Horse, 2003

A cautionary tale of what our world might become, featuring the last of the vampire slayers (first depicted in the famous television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

The Crow by James O'Barr. Simon & Schuster, 2002 (reprint)

A modern tale of vengeance, and a timeless love that even Death could not end.

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake series, vol. 1) by Laurell K. Hamilton. Jove, 2002 (reissue)

A straightforward look at the life of a professional vampire slayer, this bestseller is full of mystery, horror, action and complicated romance.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Penguin, 2003 (reissue)

Although the means of creation is scientific rather than magical, the patchwork creature made of dead men is a perfect example of the consequences of meddling with forces humanity was not meant to comprehend.

Hellboy: Seed of Destruction by Mike Mignola. Dark Horse, 2004 (reprint)

Hellboy, though a demonic half-breed, is a stalwart defender against the darkness. Soon to be a major motion picture!

The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead. Max Brooks Crown Publishing Group, 2003

Last but not least, a practical guide to survival should the worst happen, and humanity is overridden by the ravenous dead.

In closing, let me remind all and sundry of your responsibility to turn back the tide of darkness and expose their evil to the light of day.

May victory be yours.
